Abstract: In the laboratory diagnosis of any disease, information regarding the farm history, animal biodata, clinical signs and symptoms of the disease must be as complete as possible as these would help the microbiologist to ascertain the situation and make a proper choice of media, incubation environment, staining techniques and other parameters. Otherwise, specimens might be processed as routine procedure and vital isolates which may be the aetiological agent would be lost or missed. With sufficient information and the right clinical specimens given, the diagnostic laboratory should be able to isolate and identify the aetiological agent from any disease or infection. Results from the diagnostic laboratory should be carefully assessed and interpreted and should be in line with the clinical signs and symptoms, the farm history and animal biodata. If the clinician or veterinarian is familiar with the epidemiology and pathogenesis of the infection, a quick and accurate diagnosis of the disease could be achieved with no problem
