Abstract: This paper focusses on the pattern of media utilization by extension agents in Malaysia. Despite obvious and numerous advantages of small media, not much is known about their usage. Three studies were conducted to supplement the dearth of information on this matter. The first study was to take an inventory of small media available in extension agencies, taking into account utilization pattern of small media by extension agents. The second study comprised of extension agents in one district in Johore, to determine small media utilization by the agents, including related issues such as level of competency of the agents, choice of media, problems faced in media usage and training needs as perceived by respondents. The third study was carried out among development workers who came for in-service training at Universiti Pertanian Malaysia, with the objective centred on small media utilization pattern among them. The findings of the three studies revealed a disheartening trend of media utilization in human development efforts in Malaysia.
