Title: The response of young durian (Durio zibethenus) seedlings to two different in-ground geo-textile membrane volumes

Abstract: Durian trees were grown in two in-ground geo-textile membrane volumes of 0.8 and 1.8m3 to determine the effects on vegetative growth. Resuls Showed that no significant response in girth, plant height and canopy spread due to differences in in-ground volumes after three years of planting. However, 0.8m3 in-ground membrane volume showed significant reduction in fine and total root weight by 1.6 and 0.84 folds when compared to the larger volume (1.8m3) during that period, respectively. It indicated that vegetative growth (top growth) of durian is not sensitive to reduction in root restrictive membrane volumes, but root growth is reduced. Regression plots revealed that good linear correlations between shoot and root growth. Both shoot and total plant weight are dependent on root growth as shown in linear regression analyses between total root and shoot dry weight and between fine root and total plant dry weight which had significant correlation of r2=0.50* and 0.60*, respectively.
